Work Placement

Sniffing the Market

A good but unfortunately seldom lucrative possibility to see what the future holds in store for the working market, is a work placement. This way, it's possible to get a first hand feeling about what the job is like, as well as talk to people who are doing it. And it gives you the chance to see if that particular job is really something you would like to be doing in the future. You even get paid a minimal amount for the experience. The positions at renowned companies are highly sought after. It is therefore recommended to apply early and to as many interesting places as possible.

In some courses of study, work placements are obligatory. The placement is either during or after the studies. Generally students are requirered to look for their own work placement, however if a work placement is required, the Institutes of Higher Education help find a placement and sometimes even have internal work placement data bases.

When study regualtions do not require a work placement, it does not hurt to get the experience. Employers especially look for students with work expierence like they look for students with good marks.
