Hessen decides against study fees (06/20/2008)

The Parliament of the German state Hessen has abolished study fees. On June 17th, 2008, politicians voted against education costs and declared that in the state of Hessen, study fees will no longer apply. Hessen has twelve state institutions of higher education: five universities, two art academies, and five universities of applied sciences. Until now students were required to pay a tuition fee of 500 euros per semester. From the winter term 2008/09 this is to change: no tuition fees will have to be paid anymore.
