The University of Trier starts a new excavation project (09/05/2009)

The University of Trier has started a new excavation projection on the Roman estate of Otrang in Fliessem, located in western Germany. For the next five years, the outlying terrain of the villa is to be examined. Potential findings could help give researchers more insight into Roman commerce at the time. The Roman estate Otrang became international recognized after scattered artifacts and old building support structures were found there. The outlying areas of the villa’s terrain had only been superficially examined until now. Scientists in the past have said that the Otrang Romans would have built outposts for commerce in the lands they controlled, which included France, Germany, Belgium, the Netherlands and Luxembourg. Scientists are hoping for new findings at the dig. 20 students from the Trier University will be doing excavation work as well.
