Amidst Mountains and Trees

I thought of starting my blog with something due to which I am here, in Germany.

I am going to talk about the Bergische University of Wuppertal. Imagine yourself surrounded with mountain and trees, with books as cherry on the cake. The word ‘Berg’ in German means mountain in English and hence Bergische University.

Who wouldn’t want to live and study in such an environment? It’s been already two months here and I couldn’t feel more rejuvenated. To truly being in the lap of nature and enjoying the little pleasures of life is completely blissful. The feeling of a cool breeze of fresh air across the face, touching the warmth of the cheeks as soon as I open the balcony make the rest of my day refreshing. There is a permanent nip in the air which will endear you to the cool and pleasant weather of this beautiful place. In the University campus one finds himself/herself distanced from the hustle and bustle of the main city center. You will not always be surrounded and engulfed in a crowd. This University has already gotten interesting, hasn’t it?

It has a beautiful campus with a wonderful infrastructure with hills against the backdrop. You will get the feeling of tranquility and relaxation. The campus is compact. One has to walk a bit and given the fact that it’s situated in a hilly region, it could be a little tiring. But hey, no need to worry, you get your spirits soaring high as soon as you see the greenery, the lofty hills, the bibliophile atmosphere & amazing campus buildings. It will just greet your eyes. If you live outside the University, you will also have to walk uphill, again one might find the climbing little exhausting but you might enjoy a great view over the Wupper Valley and the region surrounding it. Otherwise, if you don’t want to tire your feet much you can always take a bus. There is a regular bus line that connects the campus to all the different places of the city. So, basically the University has everything to cheer you up and motivate you to make your way to the campus and also give treat to your eyes on it’s way. It also has a big dining hall, which the Germans call (Mensa), cafeteria and also a pub, which the Germans call (Kneipe). So after much climbing and reading you can satisfy your hunger by trying out some German food at any of these places inside the University and also the view from terrace where the cafeteria is located is amazing.

The University caters very well to foreign students. It won’t be tough to integrate once you know what you’re getting into. It has semester kick-off parties which is a great way to enjoy the party of other culture and also at the same time socialize with the students of different departments and get to know each other well. The professors are also very open and friendly. You could always reach to them regarding anything related to academics. The University also has an International Office which will help you out and clear your queries. One thing foreign students could use to their advantage is languages: English, your native language and the knowledge of German language, at least till B2 level will give you an upper hand.

In a nutshell, this is an ideal place to study and be sure to feel rejuvenated.
