German Women!!

The German woman is as complex as any woman in the world (go figure).  But there are some ways in which I just cannot understand their inner-workings.  Many of the men/boys here complain that the German woman/girls are just very tough – independent – self-reliant – to the point where they don’t even need men in their life (umm most woman in today’s world think the same).

However, I understand where the men are coming from because in my experience the woman here find it offensive if a male offers help in carrying something heavy e.g. furniture when you’re moving. This doesn’t always happen but most of the times the response by the female is a bit derogatory towards the male, implying that she can manage herself and doesn’t need any help (no comment).

Talking to one of my ‘strong self-independant’ girlfriend’s about this very matter – she responded by saying “the gentleman left Germany a long time ago.” I pondered over this statement for hours in my long bus ride.  Im well-informed that Germany has had a tough history, perhaps the German woman grew to be tough as a consequence of these events, facing situations where men were away at war and they had to fend for themselves and this became an integral part of who they are. Either way, I get the feeling that German men and woman are tough as hell, sometimes the women are even tougher!!

Speaking of tough women, only two days ago I bumped into a colleague who is expecting.  She was casually browsing through some items at a shop when I met her and asked when she was due – her response left me shell-shocked!! “Two days” she said nonchalantly.  It took me a few seconds to register this information because for me a women in her 9 month meant she stays home and relaxes while the family pampers her, since she is in no condition to be running around town.  BUT, here I was standing in front one of the gentlest women I had encountered with a full belly, doing her chores, riding her bike as if it was just another day.  We even met up for coffee a day later and I swear I couldn’t help but repeat how awesome it is that the German woman (majority of them) take their pregnancies in stride as if it’s as normal as breathing.

Coming from a society where everyone has two words to add to what you must or mustn’t do, the pregnant woman is looked upon as a delicate vulnerable creature who is rendered incapable of performing chores, even if she wants to!  To the point, where the woman herself feels helpless and thinks she can’t perform menial day-to-day tasks because it might affect her child negatively – thank God for the new generation of doctors who are changing this mind set and women can now go about their work and jobs normally! Hallelujah!

So here’s to the awesome German women I know – the Mother’s who brought up their daughters to be as tough as men, and the girls who know their worth and won’t let their male counterparts find any reason to think they are not equal – maybe in some ways they’re even better :p

    Dear Rubab,
I enjoyed enormously reading your post and I totally agree with you. German woman are amazing!, they are tough but gentle, and very feminine. What I have seen is that they transmit a lot of self-security to their children, because they are confident themselves, which could explain in part why the Germans have reached so far.

Yes, and we are proud of our women!
However, it has been different also in Germany. Until 1955 femal teachers were not allowed to be married, until 1958 the husband decided whether his wife could work or not.
So there is hope for you islamic countries to change, but the change has to come from yourself.

Islam honor the women by treating her as a queen, she is not needed to work if she have a man who gives her love before money ,after her work is that big heart fall off love so she can take care of children and raise them well not with babysitting while working all the day even at nights also .who you wanna be a women be with her husband and childrens full off pressure so we do respect your change but thank you for the suggestion.

    Hi Rubab!

I´m one of those German women and I liked your post. I sometimes like to read articles about Germany to know what Non-Germans think of us. It´s quite funny, sometimes a bit weird and most of the time just cliched. But your post was interesting and nice to read.

When you wrote about the pregnant women I thought “So what? She´s pregnant, not missing a leg”. I never thought about German women being especially tough, I thought all women were though (since women all over the world deal with pregnancies and the not so pretty parts of being a women).
I´m currently cursed with an acute Bronchitis… and I´m still doing my chores, making the purchases, taking care of my father and writing on my scientific work. What´s the other option? Should I lay down and cry? That wouldn´t help at all.

German women learned to suck it up. They just do what they got to do.
And the clever ones learned how to ask for help, too… because women may be stronger when it comes to being sick… but when you need to move a piano it´s better to ask the “stronger sex” for help.
    Let´s face it: we´re tough – not Hulk 😉

    Greetings and best wishes

Yep I agree with you. Me I’m from the U.S. myself and I find my own country men and women could certainly learn from you Germans on many thing as you said they need to just suck it up and get it done. That’s what I do yeah all of us need help with things once in while but if you have a lot of discipline most things you can do you’re self rather you’re a man or a woman.

I sincerely agree with you. I know this single mother who has two daughters. I have known them for over 12 years. That woman deserves a medal, for the consistency in her training & loving those girls, who are now women & I must say they are extremely polite & courteous. These two girls(women) are model material but you would,nt know it in the way they are. Humble & respectful in there conversations no matter how old you are. I like being around them & being there friend. If all German woman were like them, well I must say it would be cool. But ofcourse there are different personalities in every race. That ofcourse makes us all different. I respect these 3 women & I am not afraid to say it.

    Dear German Women,

When a man offers to help you carry or move something, please don’t take it as a disrespect. He wants to help you. Its a biological fact that the average man is stronger than the average woman. Therefore we men can make it easier for you. Why not take advantage and let the man be useful?
I think this whole “equality of the sexes” thing sometimes goes too far. What’s next, men expected to become pregnant too? Ah but there’s those inconvenient biological differences again.

If German men are not gentlemen, maybe its because the women don’t let them. I don’t hold the door anymore here in USA for women coming behind me because many don’t say thank you anymore like they used to. Being a gentleman to you does not mean we expect bed, ok?

      Dear Randall,
I am very sorry to read that you are not holding the door anymore. I personally find it to be a normal thing to do as matter of politeness. I am female and I am holding the door or help everyone no matter if it is a kid, an older person, male or female…I don‘t care and if I can make their life a little easier without breaking a leg, I will do that. Actually I do that more than in the past, because I hate how cold and egocentric society gets. And if a guy holds the door for me he will always get a smile and Thank you from me and I find that behavior very sweet. So, please start doing it again for us normal women, who try to be as nice as you are.

I don’t agree with your post at all! I have been living in Germany for a while now and can’t confirm your theory about the “self-confident” and “tough” Germany woman. Most women show extreme behaviour of narcistic personality disorder. They are tough in belittling and insulting people in a safe sourouding but will show you their extreme insecure persona when you get to know them.
There will be exceptions but essentialy all what those woman are doing is to hide their extremly insecure and ego-manica behaviour behind a “tough” mascarde, which btw often seems like they are a man. Also I noticed that a lot of woman who come from other countries who happen to be super pretty are often hated on and ostracized by the envies mostly average looking woman.
Regading looks german women don’t have to offer anything special. Most German women have an average face often with manly featueres and they generally look very plain.
Even my german friends told me that german woman are complicated and not worth the hassle most of the time.
