Overview

Accommodations may only be rented to female students with own entitlement. Men are only authorised to live there as partners of female students, own entitlement provided.

The residence was built by the Ottilie von Hansemann Foundation. She transferred the house to the Student Services under the condition that the apartments and flats are only rented to female students.

Apartments and flats are furnished and equipped with kitchenette, kitchen or an American-style eat-in kitchen and shower bath, depending on the accommodation type.

The Technical University and the University of the Arts are within a walking distance of few minutes.

One and a half times your monthly rent.

Duration of housing
As a rule students can stay up to ten semesters in a dorm. In compliance with the contract type, the minimum period of residence is three months.

The period of occupancy can be extended by up to four semesters for foreign students, students with chronic illnesses or physical or mental impairments, single parents, for students close to finishing their degree and for part-time students.

The washing machine room and the bar are run by the student self-administration (SV). A small yard with plants located between the two buildings is very popular with the residents. Bike parking spaces are available and cars can be parked in an underground parking area (subject to a monthly fee).

Opportunities for shopping and relaxation (Zoo/Tiergarten) are available in the neighbourhood.

Special deals for students with children / families
The student residence is very popular with mothers with children and families, and appropriately equipped with playground and other playing areas for children. The house has a child day care centre.

The of the Studentenwerk can advise you on the different social benefits that are available to students with children. A yearly workshop is also offered in coordination with the Psychological and Psychotherapeutic Counseling department to assist students in balancing their studies and their life as a parent.

The Studentenwerk also offers very affordable day care services to all parents studying at one of Berlin’s public universities or Fachhochschule. Five Studentenwerk day cares, or KITAs, are conveniently located at the Free University in Berlin, the Technical University, and the Fachhochschule for Economics. Places are available for children as young as eight weeks and up to school-age.
