Engineering sciences: math, physics and a creative mind

INFO

You can find all engineering courses in our database:

Good grades in mathematics and physics and a talent for scientific thinking are important for anyone who wants to be an engineer. Candidates should also be curious, creative, communicative, and able to work in a team. The ability to think independently is also very much in demand.

“Engineers should be inspired by the idea that everything can always be done better”, says the president of the TU9 initiative, Dr Ernst Michael Schmachtenberg. “I think curiosity is important. Also, a certain impatience and the willingness to question the status quo. Above all, prospective engineers should have fun solving technical problems on their own.”

Self-Assessment

A tool called the TU9 Self-Assessment International test can help you better assess whether a degree in engineering is right for you. You can become familiar with the requirements of the technical courses (especially at the TU9 universities) and learn more about your own strengths and weaknesses for the course. The test consists of various mathematical and logical tasks, but also questionnaires about your motivation to study and willingness to work. There is also a short German test. This test is free.

Employment outlook

The demand for engineers continues to grow. “If Germany’s economy wants to maintain its position on the world market, we need a lot of new engineers”, claims Ekkehard Schulz, ThyssenKrupp AG supervisory board member. “All of this suggests permanently secure jobs with excellent pay”, adds Schulz.
