Overview

The Halifax student hall of residence in Aachen, directly opposite the computing faculty and near to the university clinic, has 295 residents. Situated within approx. ten minutes walking distance of the RWTH and approx. ten minutes from the extension buildings by bike. The housing estate has an underground car park for your use (rent: EUR 13). Availability is subject to a waiting list and to an interview.
The hall was opened in 1994 and is not in the normal high rise style. Instead, six houses with up to four floors are arranged around a central courtyard. The rooms are organised into flats. The tenants in each flat share a kitchen with sink, hob, fridge and balcony between two, three, or four. Bathrooms with a toilet and shower are shared between two. Residents of apartments have their own bathroom and a small kitchen unit.

Rent deposit
Upon signing of the rental contract a deposit of two months rent must be deposited. This deposit will be fully refunded at the end of the rental period if there is no damage to the room. Accrued interest will be invested in maintenance.

Duration of housing
Rental contracts are limited to three years and six months. A request for extension has to be filed eight weeks in advance of the expiration of the contract. In certain circumstances it might be possible to extend contracts for another year, please contact the Studierendenwerk for further information.
