Overview

Living at the Franz-Mehring-Platz means living in the middle of town.

Single and double rooms are always part of a 2-, 3- or 4-room flat, which can also be rented as a whole by means of a group tenancy agreement. All rooms and flats are furnished.

Only three minutes' walking distance to the Ostbahnhof, from where all universities and universities of applied sciences can be reached quickly. Thanks to the S-Bahn (urban railway), it is only a stone's throw even to the Freie Universität.

The view across Berlin from the multi-storey building is fabulous. There are single rooms with flat-share character, single room apartments and small apartments specifically intended for families or single mothers.

Duration of housing
As a rule students can stay up to ten semesters in a dorm. In compliance with the contract type, the minimum period of residence is three months.

The period of occupancy can be extended by up to four semesters for foreign students, students with chronic illnesses or physical or mental impairments, single parents, for students close to finishing their degree and for part-time students.

Shared facilities
The student residence has a washing machine room, bike cellar (lockable with space for hire) and a student club. There are soda and snack machines, a concierge. Communal kitchens on every floor invite to cook together and have a chat. A fitness room is also available.

The of the Studentenwerk can advise you on the different social benefits that are available to students with children. A yearly workshop is also offered in coordination with the Psychological and Psychotherapeutic Counseling Department to assist students in balancing their studies and their life as a parent.

The Studentenwerk also offers very affordable day care services to all parents studying at one of Berlin’s public universities or Fachhochschulen. Five Studentenwerk day cares, or KITAs, are conveniently located at the Free University in Berlin, the Technical University, and the Berlin School of Economics and Law. Places are available for children as young as eight weeks and up to school-age.
